Celebrating your big 21st: Making it special

Your birthday is that one time of the year when you can dress up nicely, feel appreciated and have as much fun as you want because you are the star. And when you think of your 21st birthday celebration, you think of big parties at function rooms and venues that can fit over a 100 guests and you look back and see the people in your life that truly cared about you.
But if you're someone like me, who doesnt like the hassle or planning and organizing a large scale party, here are some other  options that you can use to still make your 21st special and meaningful.

1. Go on a trip

Venture into a foreign land with some of your closest friends and spend a good trip just taking in the sights. For me, i took a plane down to the Land of Smiles, otherwise known as Bangkok with my friends, a trip that was mostly paid for by my parents as my birthday gift. That was one of my highlights for me, travelling on my own with my friends and having the time of my life!

My close friends also celebrated their 21st with all of us headed for Bintan, Best times of my life, chilling in our indoor pool, playing at the beach and bonding sessions.

2. Plan outings with different cliques

Im sure all of us have friends that come from different points of our lives. Primary school friends, Secondary school friends, Poly friends, Jc friends, work friends and so on.  In my opinion, i think that lumping all my friends together in one big party would be pretty awkward for all of them as well as tough for me to go and entertain everyone of them. Therefore, go for different outings planned with your individual cliques. This way, you get to celebrate your 21st more than once!

3. Family First

Celebrating your 21st with your family is a must. They're the ones that will stick with you through thick and thin. What better way to keep your 21st simple than spending it with some good family bonding time. You can choose between having dinner at your favourite restaurant or savouring home cooked meals in the comfort of your own home.

So for those of you who are celebrating your 21st this year, i hope this helps.
Wishing you a happy 21st and may you have a smashing good time!

Glitz and Glamour

My personal favourites from the night of the Oscars.
Celebrities with well coiffed hairs, perfect makeup and stunning gowns, truly orgasmic.

Singer Katy Perry's electric blue hair statement absolutely complements her outfit and makes this monotone Blumarine dress POP

Victoria Secret's Angel and Transformer's lady, Rosie Hungtinton Whiteley kept it simple with a siren red Antonio Berardi dress that emphasizes all her curves in the right way.

Actress Penelope Cruz donned a gray Armani Prive off the shoulder dress and cited it as one of her favourite dresses that she's ever worn. I can definitely see why because she looks like a million bucks in this dress and i bet she must feel like one too.

George Clooney's girlfriend Stacy Kiebler took the spotlight off her man and caught my attention with this golden Marchesa dress that slings sexily over one shoulder.

Rose Bryne's toga like black sequinned dress makes boring black pale in comparison. With such stunning fit and perfect cut, it can only be Vivienne Westwood

Singer- actress Selena Gomez shines in this Dolce and Gabbana gown with floral prints that looks almost like a lingerie. The vaguely sheer material of the dress is something unique and adds a classy touch to the outfit.

Actress Mila Jovovich looking like old Hollywood glamour in this Elie Saab couture dress that channels a Marilyn Monroe vibe while still keeping her own style.

Being pretty is hard work

Appearance matters and first impressions count. So while makeup can help you achieve flawless skin and perfectly primped eyes, there are some other ways that you can help to achieve that natural glow.

Exercise

The dreaded "E" word. I know that some of you are as lazy as me and are perfectly contented with sitting at our desks and typing on the computer all day long.

But while the thought of exercise may be horrifying unglamorous (sweaty pits, oily faces) and leave sore muscles in its path of destruction, it is one of the most useful ways to improve our complexion and bodily functions. Best of all, exercising is an inexpensive way of getting fitter and becoming healthier! And makes you one step closer to attaining that rosy glow that blushers cannot achieve.

Start slow and remember not to rush right into a aggressive workout.
You have to give your body time to familiarize and comprehend what you are doing.
Choose to hit the gym, do sports or find alternative ways such as zumba or spin cycle classes to exercise. For me, i chose dance as my exercise. I loved moving my body to the music and do not be fooled, dancing works up a big pile of sweat for me!

Water

Drinking an adequate amount of water is sufficient for the body to expel our toxins and prevent illnesses such as urinary tract infections.

However, there is no scientific proof that the common saying that you have to drink eight glasses of water a day is true. Instead, some doctors have said that drinking too much water can cause adverse effects on the body such as low blood sodium levels. So remember to drink sufficient water but also remember not to overdrink! In my opinion, i feel that we subconsciously know best how much water to intake for our own bodies.

Sleep

I seriously dont know how people can look so pretty in their sleep. The world is just so unfair.
But anyway, sleep is highly important because firstly, it recharges our brain and allows our brain cells to repair themselves! So if you want to maintain your intelligence, sleep more!
Sleep also helps to keep our heart healthy, reduces stress and prevents cancer! More importantly, sleep can help us to lose weight because it affects our hormones in our body that affects our appetite. And the other benefit of sleep is that it repairs our cells that were damaged due to ultra violet rays or other harmful exposures and produces protein for our body.

So there you have it, the three important criteria to achieving a better, healthier and prettier you.
I will be embarking on a new lifestyle change this year and i cant wait to see the results!

Fashion Inspirations and the Double D days

 Jane Aldridge, author of seaofshoes.com.

My go to fashion inspiration. Although i do not have the height or fair skin or fashion sense to dress like her, i do like reading her blog. If i had crossed some of the clothes that she had wore, i would have been mortified but she pulls it off so well. Animal cashmere sweaters that most are afraid to receive, let alone wear out, she happily dons it on and still look fabulous like a model off a runway.

Her fashion sense is amazing for such a young girl and i adore all her shoe collections as im a shoe person myself. Her style is really dependent on the mood that she's in but she loves vintage collections such as tweed blazers or 70s inspired shirts. On the other hand, she also embraces the latest fashion trends and looks just as chic and beautiful. Cant believe she's only 20 this year.

Now, the Double D days as I've so aptly named is known as "Dress Down Days"
For those who know me, i love my shorts and t shirts. Because of Singapore's sunny weather, its only appropriate to wear such clothes as though its Beach Day everyday.

This US website http://www.dailylook.com features daily looks that you can wear everyday. I am so in love with this website and they feature looks for all kinds of events, days and moods! They sell all the items ranging from clothes to accessories that you see in the different pictures and their shoes are to die for!

Here are some of my favourites for Double D days.

These are just a few in the many fashion pictures that they have, so do check out their website at www.dailylook.com

My favourite eyeliner

Ever hear of the saying "Eyes are the windows to your soul" ? Well then if windows can be decorated with curtains or stained glass, your eyes can too!
Today, I'll be talking about the essential makeup tool that every girl has to have or use at some point of their lives.
Make a guess....... *cues drum roll*

ITS EYELINER! (oh wait, the post title gave that away... never mind)

Over the years, I've tried many eyeliners (expensive and non expensive, brand or no brand) and found myself in a predicament. You see, many eyeliners claim to be smudge proof and waterproof and long lasting but every time I put on my eyeliner, halfway throughout the day, I look like this

or this

Sadly enough, I dont look as adorable as the panda or as pretty as the model so i definitely do not want my eyeliner to smudge cause i wont look that good (trust me) So where can i find an eyeliner that is suited for my oily eyelids and doesnt smudge when i smile?

Introducing the...

K PALETTE 1 DAY TATTOO

This amazing liquid eyeliner, dries fast, does not smudge easily, definitely waterproof, tried and tested and its lasts me an entire day without the need for touch ups. The brush is fine and it glides on very smoothly onto the eye leaving a rich and vibrant streak of black in its path. Because the 1 day tattoo eyeliner is a liquid eyeliner, i would not recommend it for first time users. Liquid eyeliners generally require some skill and practice and your hand has to be stable. But if you're confident! I say go for it

see the fineness as compared to pencil and gel liners

Without makeup

With only eyeliner (you probably cant see the difference because my double eyelids always cover the eyeliner and i dont do dramatic eyeliner like some others do)

Do not worry that the K palette one day tattoo will be a hassle to remove because its so hardly and smudge proof, it comes away easily using my BIORE Cleansing Sheets that i absolutely swear by. The sheets remove all my makeup easily and smell so nice! And I have never met a makeup remover parallel to my Biore cleansing sheets. Been introducing them to my family and friends and they all love it too!

Do take note that what works for me may not work for you and vice versa and for some of you, it may be a long tedious and expensive process to find that perfect eyeliner that suits you and all your requirements but when you do, its PURE JOY.

Ending off this post with a picture of me and a blue penguin. And the someone who insists that penguins are blue even though its only common sense to know that penguins are black and white!

Exploring local sights part 1

My very first post on exploring our local sights. Over the next few weeks, i will be exploring singapore's famous tourists spots once more and tell you if they've changed, gotten better or worst and let you know if they're worth the trip! In the weeks to come, i'll poke my face down at places such as the zoo, the bird park and museums.

First up is the Night Safari
Attraction factor: 3.5/5

Located at Mandai road, this popular tourist attraction is home to many nocturnal animals. For the price of $32sgd per person, you will be entitled to tour the area as well as go on a tram ride that brings you up close and personal to some of the cutest and most majestic animals in the world.

The tram ride took us to see mousedeers, elephants, giraffes, lions and my favourite, the Asian otters because they are so adorable and they make cute whiny noises. I stood at their exhibit for a good 10 minutes just watching them play in the water and watch the adult otters laze. Cutest things you'll ever see. However, my experience was dampened by some very unpleasant people during the tram ride who were rowdy and making a scene. I was later soothed by the fabulous sights of the Night Safari during the different trails that allow visitors to take a closer look at the animals.

Anyway, this is how baby Asian otters look like!

Unfortunately, i didnt take any pictures of the animals or the night safari because well my camera is pretty bad in dark lighting and i didnt bring it out. Anyway, for those checking out the night safari, please remember that no flash photography is allowed because the flash hurts the animals' eyes and they may go blind in future! So protect our beloved animals okay!

The Creatures of the Night show by the Night Safari also showcases some of the many talented animals that they have there including their friendly pet, Maggi that had me jumping out of my seat, screaming and running as far away from her as i can. If you can guess, Maggi is a.... snake. A rather huge and long although harmless but still scary creepy snake. The show also feature wolves, fishing cats and of course, the Asian otters. Dont let me spoil the show, you have to see it for yourself!

For the brave hearted, the Night Safari also offers exhibits that allow you to walk into the habitats of bats, birds and flying squirrels. Of course i was too chicken to do that because i dont particularly fancy having bats flying all over my head but for the more courageous ones, especially guys, these exhibits are pretty cool.

Overall, the Night Safari has been an amazing experience considering it is my first time there. Although i didnt manage to walk through the whole place, i would definitely go back and visit it once more!  For people who are worried that you will be unable to see the animals there because its in the night, do not worry! The whole place is brightly lit so that you will see be able to see and photograph the animals properly.

Just saw this, too cute not to share

Touring Singapore like a tourist

I got this electric blue crop top that im so in love with at one of the shops in Jurong Point. Been searching for one that isnt so pricey and when i discovered this, i went and got the same top in 2 different colours! Love how the top instantly brightens up whatever dull monochrome colour shorts im wearing! So cheery(:

Anyway, I'll be going to the Night Safari later on in the day but first up, its badminton! Boy oh boy, i hope i dont get sore muscles! So excited for Night Safari because.... i've never been there before in all my 22 years. Will the animals bite?!

I am always strong

What's inked into me. No regrets.

Wondering if i should get a similar one.

Friends: Cant live without them

If your school is filled with friends like mine, then maybe school wouldn't be a bad thing after all.

My friends laugh at me, hit me and go through the most stressful times rushing for assignments and studying for exams together with me and at the end of the day, we can still say "see you bitches" and be A-okay.
